It’s been a long time coming but finally work is progressing on the chicken house. It seems I’ve been working on it all summer and haven’t gotten very far and it’s already September. I was supposed to have this done before winter arrived so we could have chickens in the spring but I am going to have to hurry with only about 2 months left before snow can be expected and then there is the wood to get cut up, split and in the woodshed. It’s a good thing the logs are cut and curing somewhat.
The first picture shows the beginning of the foundation.
The next picture shows the concrete floors poured. The floor level with the blocks will be the grain room. The lower floor will be the chicken house proper. This floor is lower to facilitate with the cleaning out process. Just a quick scoop around the floor with a flat shovel and out the chicken door and then a little hosing down and should be nice and clean, we’ll see how it works out.
After we poured the lower floor this morning I made a trip to the lumber yard and should have enough materials to frame in the walls this weekend.
If I wasn't helping someone else tomorrow, I would help you out. If I don't catch you on this project, give me a call when you start cutting up your wood.
ReplyDeleteThis looks really cool! I started a small one in the spring... ...I have the birds and still not done though!
ReplyDeleteI love the concrete - couldn't swing that - it should clean much more easily! Still, I completely over-built (structurally, so far).
I have been served notice that the chicks are to be evicted, so hopefully their house will be done before the snow flies!
I am looking forward to reading more!
Once again, I'm sooo jealous.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to talk Jay into this in a couple of years. It might take a LOT of talking but we all know I'm up to that task. =)
Looks good, Dad.
